English Literature
The new specification for A level approaches the study of literature through the lens of historicism encouraging the independent study of a range of texts within a shared context, and giving logic and meaning to the way that texts are grouped for study.

As English is a facilitating subject it can be used to support a variety of subjects across the curriculum.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Essay-based subject; expect lots of writing!
- Prepare to read wider than the course prescribed literature.
- Conduct reading into critical perspectives on Literature.
- Expect research and pre-reading tasks ahead of lessons.

HOW IT IS ASSESSED
- Two terminal examinations at end of year 13 ( 80% of your grade).
- Paper 1: Love Through the Ages (3 hours)
- Paper 2B: Texts in Shared Contexts – Literature from 1945 to the present day (2 hours 30).
- Students will also complete a Non examined assessment (NEA) (20% of final grade).
