Performing Arts (Dance)
The new specification for BTEC approaches the study of performance with a focus on practitioners and style/genre, encouraging the study of a range of performance works, both in a group through practical workshops, as a solo performer and independently for research. Developing performance skills and exploring the context and impact of dance on culture.

- Level 2 BTEC: Merit

WHAT TO EXPECT
- Involvement in several performances in a variety of styles.
- Completing reflections and evaluations on the development of your skills.
- Spending lots of time in the library and online conducting research into practitioners and their work.
- Visits to the theatre to see performances and opportunities to meet and interview professionals from the industry.

HOW IT’S ASSESSED
- External Written Assessment – 2000 words comparing the work of practitioners and contextual influences in relation to a given theme.
- External Performance Assessment – Up to 20 minutes of performance based on a set stimulus accompanied by a log book.
- Two Internal assessments both workshop based ending in performance work, accompanied by a log book.
