This is a practical, work-related course, which introduces you to the employment opportunities available in Health & Social Care. It’s the biggest growing employment sector in the UK; the BTEC Nationals are designed to relate to the National Occupancy Standards for the Care Sector.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
GCSE English Language at Grade 4 or above, due to the high level of coursework.

WHAT TO EXPECT
- Make effective use of primary/secondary resources to produce work to deadlines.
- Complete 4 -5 hours research per week to use as references within portfolios.
- Collaboration designed to widen understanding of key concepts e.g. First Aid & Safeguarding.
- View documentaries and access media sources to develop wider understanding of UK care sector.
- Be prepared to write long essays using the Harvard Reference system.

HOW IT’S ASSESSED
There are four units of study in total. Over the two years two units are assessed through coursework portfolios which are externally verified and two are examinations.
