Our School App Stay connected on the go...
Isn’t this exciting… or are you nervous? Students, you’re about to make the transition from your primary school to Valley Park, your new school. Parents/carers, I’m also talking to you, as you too are at a crossroads.
I expect you think about your primary school as your school, and about Valley Park as your new school, with all the anticipation and worries that come with that change. I hope that the excitement outweighs the nerves, but it’s only natural that you will feel some uncertainty at the moment, particularly given the very strange year that 2020 has turned out to be.
We are disappointed that we don’t currently have the opportunity to meet with you face to face, but hope that this section of our website will answer some of your questions, and tell you a bit more about our community. Mr Whatley, Head of Lower School, will be writing to you soon to ask you to send us any further questions you might have – and then he and I have a brand-new virtual event planned for you, the like of which we have never done before… what could possibly go wrong?
We have collected together information about some of the common questions we are typically asked at this time, and have taken this opportunity to introduce some key members of staff you can look out for, too. Mr Whatley will oversee your transition, and you will be hearing more from him in the coming weeks, but everyone at Valley Park has a role to play in helping you to settle in. We are currently busy asking our current Year 7 students what they would like to tell you about becoming a secondary school student, so look out for some more insights from them soon!
You should already have received a letter from me introducing our Transition Project, and asking you to send us some photos of work that you’ve completed recently and of which you are proud. Already we have received songs, dances, poems, drawings, paintings and bakes – Have a look at our transition project padlet, because this would be a good place to see other students who are in exactly the same position as you.
The password for the padlet is: VIAT2020!SeptWelcome
Checking our getting to know you email address is genuinely one of the high-spots of my week, as I love to learn a little bit about our future students, and I have really been taken by surprise as to the quality and variety of submissions I’ve received so far. Do make sure you join in – there's no limit to the number of pieces of work you can send us.
We know that our lack of face to face meetings at the moment makes your movement from primary to secondary school that little bit more challenging, but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. There's a dedicated email address for anything to do with admissions, and, whilst we are constrained by the national social distancing rules, if you can think of anything that would help, please get in touch.
This website is a treasure trove of information about our school: We have a blog, written by myself in conjunction with other members of the Valley Park team. Perhaps you would be interested to read some of the messages that we have shared recently with our community – remember that you are part of that community now, too. Is there a topic that you would like to see featured? Why not let us know?
Have you seen Park Life Digital, our brand-new e-magazine that launched this year? Would you like to know what has been going on at Valley Park recently? You can find out by visiting our News page. You can also find previous editions of Park Life, too.
How will we know whether we have done a good job with your transition? Well, it will be when you are able to call Valley Park your school, and I hope that day comes very soon. I can’t wait to meet you as soon as we are able.
In the meantime, we hope that you and your child find this section of our website to be a helpful discussion point. Do stay safe and keep in touch…
With best wishes,
