Our School App Stay connected on the go...
Isn’t this exciting… or are you nervous? Students, you’re about to make the transition from your primary school to Valley Park, your new school. Parents/carers, I’m also talking to you, as you too are at a crossroads.
I expect you think about your primary school as your school, and about Valley Park as your new school, with all the anticipation and worries that come with that change. I hope that the excitement outweighs the nerves, but it’s only natural that you will feel some uncertainty at the moment, particularly given the very strange year that 2021 has already turned out to be.
We are disappointed that we don’t currently have the opportunity to meet with you face to face, but hope that this section of our website will answer some of your questions, and tell you a bit more about our community. We will be writing to you soon to ask you to send us any further questions you might have – and we will do our best to answer your queries. We hope that the pandemic restrictions will soon be lifted a little more, so we can meet you in person to do so.
We have collected together information about some of the common questions we are typically asked at this time, and have taken this opportunity to introduce some key members of staff you can look out for, too. Mr Sargent will oversee your transition, and you will be hearing more from him in the coming weeks, but everyone at Valley Park has a role to play in helping you to settle in. We are currently busy asking our current Year 7 students what they would like to tell you about becoming a secondary school student, so look out for some more insights from them soon!
Have a look at our transition project padlet from last year, because you will very soon be receiving an invitation to join your fellow Year 6 students in building your very own version! Watch out for our invitation, and follow the link above to see what our current Year 7 students achieved this time last year.
The password for the Padlet is: VIAT2020!SeptWelcome
I love to learn a little bit about our future students, and I was taken by surprise last year with the quality and variety of submissions we received Do make sure you join in when we send you your login details – there's no limit to the number of pieces of work you can send us.
We know that our lack of face to face meetings at the moment makes your movement from primary to secondary school that little bit more challenging, but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. There's a dedicated email address for anything to do with admissions, and, whilst we are cuurently constrained by the national social distancing rules, if you can think of anything that would help, please get in touch.
This website is a treasure trove of information about our school: We have a blog, written by myself in conjunction with other members of the Valley Park team. Perhaps you would be interested to read some of the messages that we have shared recently with our community – remember that you are part of that community now, too. Is there a topic that you would like to see featured? Why not let us know?
Have you seen Park Life Digital, our e-magazine? Have you found our e-safety page? What about assemblies - have you 'been' to any of those? Would you like to know what has been going on at Valley Park recently? You can find out by visiting our News page.
How will we know whether we have done a good job with your transition? Well, it will be when you are able to call Valley Park your school, and I hope that day comes very soon. I can’t wait to meet you as soon as we are able.
In the meantime, we hope that you and your family find this section of our website to be a helpful discussion point. Do stay safe and keep in touch…
With best wishes,
