Ashura holds different meanings for Sunni and Shia Muslims. Sunnis celebrate it as the day Moses parted the Red Sea & the salvation of the Israelites. For Shias, it is a day of mourning for Husayn ibn Ali's martyrdom, the Prophet Muhammad's grandson. pic.twitter.com/3wtiRS2P3N— Valley Park School () July 5, 2025

Music and Fine Dining to raise money for Young Lives Foundation

Our students are putting on a night of musical theatre and fine dining this week, to raise money for the Young Lives Foundation (YLF).

The event is taking place in the Gallery on Tuesday evening and will see Year 12 Musical Theatre students deliver a night of musical numbers and solo performances as part of their BTEC examination. These students have teamed up with their Year 13 Catering and Hospitality counterparts, to create a menu and an evening of food and entertainment.

Musical numbers from ‘Come from Away’, ‘Waitress’ and ‘CATS’ will entertain guests while they eat a delicious three-course meal and canapés. There will also be a raffle and games throughout the evening to ensure as much money is raised as possible.

YFL is an award winning non-profit organisation based in Maidstone, with expertise in Advocacy, Mentoring, Befriending and Activity Programmes.

YFL have been working closely with Year 10 students and teachers, providing support and mentoring. The school has so far had this vital work funded but, from next year, will have to raise the funds themselves.

Miss Blackman said: “We are aiming to create as many fundraising opportunities as possible, for this work to be able to continue. Our Sixth Form students have heard what Young Lives have done for some of the younger students and would like their examination performance to raise money for them.”

Throughout the evening, Year 10 students who have received support will share their stories to show just what great work the YLF do.

If you would like to come along and support, enjoy an evening of excellent quality performances and exquisite food all organised, created and performed by students, please book your tickets and give your details via this link:

We look forward to seeing you on the night; the event starts at 6pm in the Gallery.
