Growing Together

This week marks Children's Mental Health Week (7-13 February 2022) and the theme for 2022 is Growing Together.

A poll of 1,130 professionals working with children and young people -- released on 4 February - found that 86% of participants had seen lower self-esteem in children and young people than previously. 76% noted a rise in numbers of those experiencing depression, and 68% indicated that feelings of anger amongst students had risen.

Not a surprise, then, that 91% of respondents also noted a reduction in students' abilities to engage with their learning.

The Growing Together theme will focus therefore on how we can all grow emotionally; how we can find ways to support one another, in spite of the setbacks that we all experience in life.

You can find more, including resources and interviews here:

Children's Mental Health Week

Dr Alex George - UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador - is one of those who shares his thoughts. You can view this below.

Don't forget that, in school, besides the activities that are provisioned for Children's Mental Health Week itself, we have wellbeing spaces available to our students, coupled with our peer mentoring scheme. Like all schools, we have training underway for our Senior Mental Health Lead.  We encourage anyone – whether student or parent or carer - to come forward and speak to us if they have any concerns.

With the half term break approaching, now is a good time to clear up any worries so that they don't build up over the holiday.

Start a conversation: ask someone how they are today.
