Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner, says improved attendance notably boosts students' chances of gaining qualifications. 54% of pupils who improved attendance from Y10 to Y11 passed at least 5 GCSEs, compared to those persistently absent both years. pic.twitter.com/2egkPNUI6S— Valley Park School () May 5, 2024

Year 10 Football Champions and Animals in Clay

Year 10 Football Champions

Congratulations go to the Year 10 Football team for winning the Maidstone District Championship. They won 4-0 vs St Simon Stock at the Gallagher Stadium, Maidstone.

Valley Park were outstanding throughout the match, after going 1-0 ahead early in the game. Valley controlled the tempo of the game, controlled the ball and rarely looked threatened. However, at only one goal ahead they needed to get more goals to ensure St Simon Stock did not respond.

Unfortunately, the great chances we kept creating just wouldn’t go in! Valley kept pushing hard, and then came a brilliant second goal scored by Rhys just before half time allowing Valley to go into half time 2-0 in front.

Valley managed to come out strongly in the second half, despite a spirited first ten minutes by our opponents. The team managed to hold on and even went on to score a further two goals.

Some really brilliant performances were shown during the game: Yugun coming on in the first half and helping the team secure the second goal; Louis at left back performed very strongly with a quick player to defend against; Liam was outstanding as Captain with a mature performance, and also Rhys coming on and being really forward thinking in the final third to help score extra goals for the team. James from Year 9 was given Player of the Game after being selected by the oppositions manager.

We are extremely proud of the team: It was a great result and a magnificent achievement to make it to the final and then go on to win as well. Well done to the whole team; Rhys, George, Liam, Rhys, Louis, Jack, Charlie, Ollie, Alfie, Scott, Jude, Liam, Yugan, Zac, Jacob, Harrison and James.

Worldwide Animals in Clay

Year 9 GCSE Ceramics students have been making their large-scale worldwide animals in clay.

Miss Collins is really impressed with the level of skill and ambition the year 9 students have shown on their first large-scale piece of work. They have learnt how to construct the hollow form which has been a huge development in their skills, learnt making the smaller scale local animal sculptures of hares and squirrels in module 1 at the start of the year. Look out for these on display after the firings.

Year 10 work experience has been the making of two of the ceramic’s students. Nadia  has completed her professional regal-like teapot. She has been an asset alongside Rosie helping with the kiln firings, gaining greater knowledge of the ceramics processes.

They have also taken time to support and teach many of the Year 9 ceramics students when adding the finishing touches to their work.
