Art Showcase 2022

Despite the multitude of challenges faced by the Art Department these past two years, sixth form students went above and beyond to deliver an art exhibition, showcasing their talents at Lower Grange Farm.

Friends, family, and staff were all in attendance to admire the work of the students that decorated the barn in a variety of forms. Students studying Textiles had intricate garments lining the entrance to the barn, setting the tone for the excellence that would follow.

Inside, the technical work of Photography and Graphics students decorated the walls, whilst the delicate work of Ceramics pupils could be admired on their rightful stands. One student even went above and beyond to match her outfit with her mesmerising corner of statement art which fascinated attendees.

It was evident that the levels of hard work, determination, and creativity each student had placed into their work, earning them a well-deserved round of applause during the event. Attendees were treated to the musical talents of Music students Toby and Summer, who thoroughly entertained everyone throughout the night.

After a series of tough deliberations, the Art department staff had settled on a selection of students to be commended for their efforts and talents. Awards - cleverly named after inspiring artists - were awarded to each of these hardworking students.

Attendees were lucky enough to be treated to a speech from guest speaker, Ben Hein, one of Mr Spurr’s former students who furthered his artistic studies into university. His words inspired all of us, who came to understand the possibilities available to them after their studies here at Valley Park.

It wasn’t just the students whose hard work was seen throughout the evening. Members of the Art department also received their rightful round of applause for their continuous support of their students, as well as the incredible showcase they organised after a long awaited few years.

Guests were offered numerous drinks and delicacies throughout the evening as they engaged in conversations about the captivating artwork surrounding them. The option to purchase a book designed by some of the art students themselves was made available to all guests, allowing parents to have keepsakes of their child’s accomplishments, and pupils to treasure the efforts of themselves and their fellow classmates.

The evening was a truly enjoyable experience for all involved, and a great way for students to commemorate their achievements across the year, particularly for those leaving Valley Park this summer.

Honor, Year 13
