Magic Of The FA Cup

March 16th, 2017

On the 11TH, 12TH, AND 13TH OF March FA Cup action took place. The first tie of the weekend saw Middlesborough host Manchester City at the Riverside Stadium. The Manchester side was victorious 2-0, with goals coming from David Silva (3) and Sergio Aguero (67). Manchester City dominated the game with 69% of possession and 18 shots on goal compared to Middlesborough’s 9.

The second game of the weekend saw Non-League Lincoln City take on Premier League Arsenal. Lincoln’s cup run was ended as they were beaten 5-0 by a strong Arsenal side. 9,000 Lincoln City fans travelled to the Emirates Stadium to support the Non-League side.

Sunday’s only game was an all-London tie which saw League one Millwall take on In-form Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. Tottenham faced a shaky start with their top goalscorer Harry Kane facing an injury, however it did not affect Tottenham’s performance as they ended up winning 6-0, Heung-min Son was the scorer of 3 of Tottenham’s goals, it was also a positive day for Tottenham substitute Vincent Janssen as he came on to score his first Tottenham goal from open play.

The last Quarter-Final saw Premier League table toppers Chelsea face last season's FA Cup champions Manchester United. Manchester United were missing some of their star players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and all-time goalscorer Wayne Rooney. Ander Herrera faced a red card for the FA Cup champions in the 35th minute, leaving United with 10 men. This offered the London side a real chance in the tie, in the 51st minute Chelsea’s star man N’Golo Kante opened the scoring with a long-range effort which beat Manchester United keeper David De Gea.
