To secure the Gold award, an organisation must meet a total of 165 or more different standards, including 39 core accreditation standards. The Gold award, awarded to less than 3% of organisations nationwide, celebrates those that perform beyond the core Investors in People Standard. The Standard provides a solid foundation for further growth and development and is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate they operate at the highest levels of people management practices, including learning and development, leadership skills, and recognition and reward of employees amongst others. To reach the standard the school – which has 1300 pupils and 100 staff- had to show its commitment to improving the learning and development opportunities of all its staff.

The assessor praised the school, stating 'the evidence gathered during the assessment presented a picture of a thriving school, matching high ambition with continuously improving performance and results'.

Staff believe that Valley Park is a great place to work because the school’s ambition clearly resonates with staff and there is a genuine commitment to keep improving.

Amongst many positive comments the assessor noted that there are:

  • Sophisticated systems for managing school performance
  • Strong vision and well embedded values
  • Very strong leadership from the senior leadership team
  • High quality learning and development
  • Strong internal communication allowing staff to be clear about the schools priorities
  • Social responsibility, there is an admirable breadth and depth of community engagement.

'We are very proud of this prestigious accreditation and the work that has gone into achieving it,' said Headteacher Vic Ashdown. 'We also look forward to building on this solid foundation it has set within our school. The Investors assessor interviewed 25 staff including the Chair of the Trust over a three and a half day period. This has given us all a real sense of achievement.'

Alex Taskin, Assessor said, 'I would like to thank all Valley Park staff members for being so welcoming.'
