More Maths Marvels!

On Thursday 30 April 2015 twenty students from Years 7 and 8 entered the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge...

ukmt-1500x1358-e1384243972186Established in 1996, the UKMT is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. Over 600,000 students from over 4000 schools take part, making this the UK’s biggest national mathematics competition.

As you can imagine, our students faced tough competition from across the entire country.

Four Valley Park students have received particular commendation for their achievements on the day:

·       Kaylee Schorah, Year 8, achieved Best in School, Best in Year and a Silver Award

·       Harry Brookman, Year 7, achieved Best in School, Best in Year and a Silver Award

·       Josh Boswell, Year 7, achieved a Silver Award

·       George Fisher, Year 7, achieved a Bronze Award.

This was the first time that any Key Stage 3 students at Valley Park School have attempted the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, so this makes the achievements of these four individuals even more admirable.

Ms Parker-Jeffery organised the event on behalf of the Mathematics Department. Well done to all the participants who included: Matthew Marsh, Erin Connor, Kevin Gurung, Ryan Dewhurst, Cameron Beech, Roman Francis, Izabel Brown, Cliona Saunders and Bradley Naylor of Year 8 and also the following students from Year 7: Ellie Davenport, Ellis O’Cock, Abigail Edney, Sofia Moffet, Samuel Brooker, Eva Bruce and Phoebe Smith.
